Business on rabbits – Profitability
Profitability of eco-rabbit breeding
The basic information – breeding of one rabbit.
The rabbit grows 3 months until it gains the market weight – during this time the animal eats about 15 kg of formula feed and10 kg of hay.
We are not aware of the prices for this feed in your country, but we know the prices in Ukraine. This feed costs $ 8,75 (in our calculations we round up its price to $10)
After 3 months of growing, the rabbit weights 2,2 kg. Price for 1 kg of eco-rabbit meat is about $12 EXW (but in some countries the price of eco-rabbit meat is in times more expensive!)
Average cost of rabbit skin is $ 3,75. Cost of liver, kidneys, heart –$ 60 for 1 kg; these byproducts are delicacies.
For wild animals (head, purtenance, legs) – $0,7 for 1 kg,
Manure from one rabbit (during 3 months) – 30 kg, if to turn it into humus – it will be 15 kg. Price for 1 kg of humus – $0,8.
Profit from one rabbit:
Meat 2,9 kg х $12 =$ 34,8
Liver, kidneys, heart – 0,3 kg х $15 = $ 4,5
Skin – $ 3,75
Manure – 30 kg = 15kg of humus х $0,8 = $12
Purtenance – 0,7 kg х $0,7= $ 1,4
All in all – $ 56,45
One rabbits needs $10 for feed, so the clear profit is $ 46,45
To increase the profit, you may sell one rabbit by portions. Thus, we have further calculations:
One mini-farm “Rabbitax 8” produces (within one year):
3 kindlings of one doe, 3 does in the mini-farm – 72 young rabbits;
4 kindlings of one doe, 3 does in the mini-farm – 96 young rabbits;
5 kindlings of one doe, 3 does in the mini-farm – 120 young rabbits;
Business on rabbits – Profitability
Take as a basis the mid-point.
If you sell rabbit meat by portions of 400 grams each, the outcome will be higher, than if you sell the whole rabbit at once. Besides, a few customers want to buy the whole rabbit, thus, selling by portions is more profitable. Let’s use the schedule with 4 kindlings of one doe (within one year) for calculations:
96 rabbits with market weight – 3,2 kg. It is 2,9 kg of meat, 300 grams – liver, heart, kidneys.
2,9 kg х 96 = 278,4 kg of rabbit meat
278,4 kg : 400 g = 696 portions
696 portions х $10 = $ 6960 >>>>>>>>> Turnkey Project” “Eco-Rabbit Breeding”
Organs: 0,3 kg х 96 = 28,8 kg
28,8 kg : 150 g one portion = 192 portions
192 portions х $15= $ 2880
Lungs, head, purtenance, legs, ears – 0,7 kg
0,7 kg х 96 х $0,7 = $ 47,04
Manure produced by 96 rabbits = 96 х 30 = 2880 kg, this is 1440 kg of humus
1440 kg х $ 0,8= $ 1152
Skins of 96 rabbits х $ 3,75 = $ 360
All profits from one eco-farm within a year:
6960 + 2880 +47,04 + 1152 + 360 = $ 11 399,04
The cost of feed for 96 rabbits should be subtracted from this sum – 96 rabbits х $10=$ 960
Clear profit – $ 10439,04. The price of equipment is $3500 and the profit covers all expenses three times within one year (profitability 298%)!
We have shown the operational profit from one mini-farm “Rabbitax 8” during one year. To use this equipment in the commercial objectives, the expenses on taxes should be counted. 10 eco farms are serviced by 2 workers.
